History

The WannaWearOne Campaign started at University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospital in 2010 and was conducted by John Worsham and Lara Leininger, Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurses. Over 165 health care workers at UNC participated in the first WWO Campaign.

The second WWO campaign occurred in October 2013 and 180 health care workers at UNC participated. The purpose of the campaign is to raise ostomy awareness among health care professionals and caregivers of ostomates, empathize with changes to day-to-day life, encourage appropriate pouching technique and encourage ostomates to live a normal, adventurous life.

The WWO Campaign lasted 3 days and was organized to occur in the month of October around Ostomy Awareness Day. Participants of the WWO campaign included WOCNs, Nurses, certified nursing assistance, nurse practicioners, physical therapist, dieticians, occupational therapists, MDs including residents, case managers, and health unit coordinators.
